The lawsuit could potentially cost the City of Walnut $150,000-$200,000 and could take three to nine months to deliberate.
Walnut brought forth the suit in confidence that the construction company, Majestic Reality, would cause, what Special Counsel for Walnut, Jan Chatten-Brown calls "adverse effects on the environment," by building a 592-acre facility containing a football stadium that could house 75,000 to 80,000 guests.
According to a press release from Walnut City, a huge concern for the City of Walnut is the violations surrounding the CEQA [California Environmental Quality Act] Laws, which are in direct violation of not providing a prepared project specific EIR [Environmental Impact Report] for stadium project and insufficient analysis and mitigation of environmental impacts, including, but not limited to, traffic congestion, air pollution noise, and aesthetic impacts including light pollution.
Other concerns for the City of Walnut are the increased traffic that a major complex would create. Also, the additional traffic would hamper the area's air quality and the cities of Walnut, Diamond Bar, and Pomona would lose their sense of isolation.
