White, who has spent many years volunteering for a number of organizations including the Los Angeles County Zoo and Nature Center, said a volunteer makes the best servant. She was at work when she heard the news and shared her excitement with a co-worker.
"I can't wait to represent them…65,000 students!" White said.
Rene Kouassi was named vice president of business, and Steven Solana was named vice president of activities
A.S. elections were held April 21-25. Students voted electronically on any computer with Internet access. There was also a booth in front of the Student Life Center with multiple computers for students to vote. This year, out of 20,917 eligible voters, 1,312 students voted. This almost doubles the number of students who voted last year, which was close to 700.
White said she was happy that people were involved and aware of what was happening.
"I want to congratulate the student body on almost doubling the number of votes in the elections from last year," she said.
Solana was at Target shopping when he heard the news, and said he started jumping up and down in excitement. He said there are so many changes he wants to make, and cannot wait to start.
"I worked so hard," he said. "I wanted to reach out to everyone."
White, Kouassi, and Solana's platform includes bringing awareness of activities, clubs, and sports to the campus and implementing a recycling program. Kouassi said they want to emphasize diversity, especially since there is so much diversity within their ticket.
"We want every student to have the best college experience they can," White said.
Helen Yi was elected for Inter-Club Council chair and Christopher McMahan for ICC vice chair. The two senator pro-temps are William Hsu and Esmeralda Alvarez.
The new student trustee is Cheryl Jamison.
As president, White said there is a lot of work to be done.
"I don't feel like just a student anymore," she said. "I feel like there's a brotherhood between everyone and I need to represent all these people. It's a great feeling."
