"I heard about the accident, but I didn't know that Mt. SAC students were involved," Gonzales said. "It wasn't until I saw the pictures that I realized that there was an ESL student and I remember seeing him here. It's just very sad."
After the service concluded, every person who attended the funeral stood in line to shake hands with the families of the victims. One by one, the families greeted and thanked everyone for their presence and support. They also asked the community to pray for Stanley Na's recovery.
Na, the only survivor of the crash, is the younger brother of Kevin Na. He is currently in stable condition and, according to Walnut Blessing Church's Web site, may be released as early as next week.
As people were leaving the funeral service, volunteers rushed over offering food and water.
"About 10 different churches donated the food and came together to help out for this cause," Shirley Halsell, a volunteer for Southland Church International, said.
Judith Rogers, another volunteer, said that there were about 2,000 sandwiches, 1,000 California rolls, 80 cases of water and some desserts, which were all donated.
Rachelle Pierce, food provider at the service, volunteered by making sure that everyone received food.
"It is really moving to see the community come together," Pierce said. "Despite the tragedy, it is an amazing thing for people to sympathize and show support like this."
