With the presidential election only six months away, I have been asked by friends and co-workers, "who are you going to vote for?" To be honest, I have started to favor the Republicans. Senator John McCain has several great leadership traits and ideas to change this country for the better. When I am asked the question, why would you vote Republican? The answer is very clear, the war in Iraq.
The war in Iraq has become a great argument for the Democrats, but their ideas of an immediate troop withdrawal scare me. I agree with McCain when he says that the war in Iraq requires a little patience and that an immediate pull out of Iraq would cause more harm.
Last Monday, General David Petraeus, commander of the multi-national forces in Iraq, said that things are getting better in the combat areas, and even the possibility of quick troop redeployment will jeopardize the success of this conflict.
Now, when the commanding general of the war in Iraq has spent over five years of his life in this hellish country, I think we might give him the benefit of the doubt with his expertise. If you are not an aircraft pilot, do you question someone who has been flying for 20 years and say he doesn't have a clue about airplanes?
I will agree that President Bush is going to be looked upon as one of the worst presidents in our country's history, but don't let him place a dark cloud over the Republican party.
The Democrats have started to lose voters simply by their indecisiveness to select a primary candidate. I will admit that I have personally lost interest in the Democratic Party mainly because they are extremely disorganized.
They hold primary elections in crucial, highly populated states, but do not award delegates to the chosen candidate because they moved their election dates to another time. That constitutes forfeiting their state's votes. Confused yet? I am.
McCain should not be looked upon as just a 73 year-old dying man. He should be looked at as someone who has the experience, someone we need to turn our country, our economy, and our world image around.
