The event, which honored student-voted educators as well as club advisors, was characterized by grateful students and educators who love what they do.
Linda Rillorta, a professor of sociology and philosophy, said "I love what I do because of you."
The sentiment was echoed by many of the professors and administrators honored at the event, including Carola Wright, a biological sciences professor, who was "completely floored by these students."
Club advisors were also honored at the event. Eula Gray, an advisor to the Associated Students, said "Clubs cannot exist without the assistance of advisors."
Students who nominated the professors were asked to introduce their professors, and the one thing that stood out to most of the students about their professors was summed up in Angelica David's speech when she said they "never fail to believe in us."
Prior to the banquet, students were asked to nominate their favorite professors based on three criteria: 1. The professor has made a positive impact on their education, 2. They have been an encouraging and beneficial influence in their lives, and 3. They have motivated them to realize their goals.
After students submitted more than 100 nominations the nominating committee selected 10 educators to be honored at the banquet. The nominating committee included Dillon Abedini, Alfredo Camacho, Miguel Del Mundo, Vanessa Evoen, Dorany Fuentes, Anita Lopez, and Raul Vargas.
Professors honored at the banquet were Steve Del Castillo, Raul Chavez, Andrea Diem, Charis Louie, Wayne Miller, Jennifer Olds, Linda Rillorta, Maryann Tolano-Leveque, Carola Wright, and Antoine Thomas, who was unable to attend the event because he was off on a study abroad trip to London.
