Through five and a half innings, the scoreboard read nothing but zero for the opposing team. For fans, it was a scoreless night. For Pitcher Mandy Pongs, it was the road to what would be a shut out game.

Pongs pitched a spectacular game allowing only two hits in seven innings to lead the Mounties to a 2-0 victory over Cerritos College.

Randie Baldwin also came up big with a double to start off the sixth, which would become the scoring run two batters later following a single from Jessica Westervoorde.

Ursula Lopez also batted in an RBI with a double off the wall scoring Westervoodre.

Mt. SAC's softball team seems to have another championship bound team as they improve to an impressive 16-2 record with a win over Cerritos that places them third in the state.

"This team is awesome," Coach Ford said. "This group has a theme that 'the game will take care of us,' we put in work during practice and we'll be taken care of during game time."

Coach Ford's birthday was this past Monday, and instead of doing a classic rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" during the fifth-inning stretch, the team, as well as the fans, sang happy birthday.

Following the game, the softball team was joined on the field by the soccer team who congratulated them on a well-fought victory.

"The athletic department supports us," Ford said. "The closer it gets to playoff time, the more exciting. It's contagious; one sport starts to support one another. It's something magical."
