New year brings new winter intersession

Many people, students included, are wondering what this new winter intersession is and what it means for them. It is like summer school, only in winter, between the newly shortened fall and spring semesters. Not to worry though, it is not going to cut into your winter break. Classes do not begin until Jan. 8 and they only last until Feb. 18.
Do not let the shortened schedule fool you. It is also like summer school in that it packs an entire semester's worth of work into six weeks, so do not take classes that are difficult to take during a regular semester.
This is the time to knock off the general education courses that do not require a ton of work on the student's part. There are far fewer courses offered than in regular semesters because of this very reason and students will only be allowed to enroll in a maximum of seven units.
Students interested in taking classes over the winter intersession can find classes online at www.mtsac.edu. Click on the 2007 Winter schedule of classes and click on search for credit classes. From there students can search for classes that they want to take. Classes offered include english 1A and 1C, math 51 and 71, biology 1, and history 1.
