College radio stations are known for unique and cutting edge programming. Mt. SAC's own radio station, KSAK, is no exception. Listeners can tune in 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 90.1 FM on radio dials.

The station is heavily music oriented with rotating music blocks from three of the most popular types of music: alternative-rock, hip-hop and top hits, said KSAK operations coordinator Cason Smith.

There are also other segments in the station's program such as the News Before 9 and Spin Cycle, which consists of news analysis and political commentary; Everything You Know is Wrong, a special feature exposing urban myths; and Sports with live coverage of Mountie home games. KSAK does not exclusively broadcast to the Mt. SAC population, but broadcasts to everyone who can pick up the signal.

Live streaming of KSAK can be found online at www.KSAK.com. Listeners can view playlists of songs being aired on the station and listen to archived sports broadcasts as well.

KSAK has been airing for 30 years and is run by volunteer broadcast students on campus. To become a volunteer, students must have taken or be enrolled in Introduction to Broadcasting (RTV01) and apply at the station to become a volunteer and go through an assessment process.

"The station is all about promoting the college while at the same time giving our broadcasting students the best training experience they can possibly have to go to the next step," Smith said.

"A lot of students who are in this program and who work at the station often get some kind of job at an L.A. station," he added.

If non-broadcasting students are interested in volunteering at KSAK, RTV01: Introduction to Broadcasting must be taken before applying.

"If you really want to just put your toe in it first to see how it goes, take RTV01, volunteer, we'll train you… and give you opportunities to help out," Smith said.
