In today's society athletes are often viewed as cocky, arrogant, and brash. When talking to Lauren Ervin you do not get that. It's exactly the opposite in fact. She comes across as a humble, strong, focused woman with a quiet but sure confidence that is evident in her game.

She exhibits the best of both worlds so to speak, the desire to win mixed in with the desire to learn. She also exemplifies the desire to be great and the work ethic to be great. Attending a Division 1 basketball program at Kansas was an example of how everything that glitters isn't gold for young Lauren. The situation was not the best in the world and she decided to come to Mt. SAC to continue her education and also to improve her already superior talent.

Although Lauren's humble approach keeps her even keel so to speak she seems to be saying, "I'm just one of the girls just fitting in and helping the team." With her solid 16 point performance on Saturday in the round of the regional playoffs Lauren once again proved she can shine when it counts. Only a freshman, Lauren seems to be mature and well on her way to much success. When talking to her coaches you get the idea that she is for real and not "faking the funk" as we see so often in sports. Assistant coach Monica Armstrong did not deviate from my assessment. "She's been great for us this year," she said. The female athletes of today's society are often overlooked and under appreciated but with Lauren's great attitude and approach she will surely always get the recognition she deserves.
